Sermon Notes

Biblical Saving Faith {its basis is the great Grace of God, to be Merciful (expression of Steadfast Loving-Kindness) to whomever He wills, to His Glory alone} {centered upon God; Father, Son (Jesus Christ), Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures}:

  • Content of the faith is truly True (absolute truth – biblically derived)
  • Personal Agreement with all God reveals
  • Personal Reliance in Mind/Heart/Will/Strength and Life
  • Ephesians 2:1-10
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, … and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
  • John 20:31
…but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
  • 1 John 5:5
Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
  • Titus 3:5-7
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
  • 2 Timothy 1:8-12
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.
  • Romans 4:20-25
…yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform. Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him, but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.
  • James 2:14-26
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? …faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. … Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” and he was called the friend of God. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. …
