1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails;…

  • God derivatively communicates these aspects of love to His children.
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
      *1 John 4:19
  • His children embody these aspects of love first toward God, then toward others.

…bears all things…endures all things.

  • All that God has foreordained in the life of the child of God; the child of God recognizes God’s direction of all his steps.
  • Loves God for Who He Is, not merely for the utility He alone provides; desires to please Him.
  • Sees God as Morally Good.
  • Sees God as Absolutely Wise.
  • Sees the Supreme Worth of God Himself. Sees the Rightness of God’s Sovereign Lordship over everything, everywhere and in all times.
  • Sees the right/true relationship between Creator – Creature/Creation.
    • Deuteronomy 32:3
“For I proclaim the name of the LORD; Ascribe greatness to our God! 4 “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.
    • 1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
    • 1 Peter 4:19
Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

  • Full Confidence in God and His Word/Bible.
    • Lamentations 3:21-24
This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.”
    • Psalm 33:4
For the word of the LORD is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness.
      *Psalm 119:137-138
    • Romans 4:20-22
…yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform. Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
    • 2 Timothy 1:12
For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.

Love never fails;…

  • Because God Never Fails; as the Author and Perfecter of Love.
    *Psalm 89:1

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.

    • Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
    • Hebrews 3:6
…but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.
